Funders Online maintains the first Internet directory specialised in indexing independent funder websites and main fields of activity. The current focus of the directory is Europe, i.e. included are only foundations and corporate funders based or active in Europe.

The directory is designed with two main purposes in mind:

• to help you track down in a quick and efficient way specific types of information provided on a funder's website, such as its grants list, programmes description or newsletter;
• to enable you to find funders according to their country of location and fields of activities.

Besides indexing funder websites and activities, the directory maintains also references to the online services of organisations that promote and underpin the work of foundations and corporate funders, such as the national associations of grantmakers or resource centres.

Directory Indexing System

The Funders Online Directory indexing system consists of two main parts:

• the websites features, indexing the different types of information, or sections, available on a funder's website, such as newsletter, grants list, annual report and contact details;
• the funder interests, indexing a funder's fields of activities. This index covers 14 major subject areas, such as culture, education and environment; 10 population target groups; 15 types of support categories; and over 40 geographic areas, i.e. countries or regions. The funder interests index is based on the European Foundation Centre Classification System.

A separate indexing system was developed to classify the online information services of the national associations of grantmakers and resource centres.
